Why is your vape not working? 10 common problems and safe solutions

The device may stop working for many reasons: from a dead battery to damage that you should not repair yourself. This guide helps you recognize the symptoms, but does not encourage you to open the casing or tamper with the battery.

Safety First

Immediately discontinue use if the casing is swollen or cracked, the device emits an unusual odor, hisses without being drawn, gets very hot, or liquid appears near the charging port. Disconnect the cable, place the device on a stable, non-flammable surface, away from flammable materials, children, and pets.

1. Vape does not respond when drawn

Possible causes include a dead battery, blocked airflow, or end of service life. Check that the air inlets are not covered by your hand or dirty. If the model has activation instructions or a lock, follow only the manufacturer's instructions.

2. LED blinks

A blinking LED may indicate a low battery, protection against too long a draw, a short circuit, or another error. The meaning of the number and color of blinks depends on the model. Do not guess — check the instructions for your specific device.

3. Device does not charge

First, check if the model is designed for charging. Use an undamaged cable that complies with the instructions. Carefully remove dust from the outside of the port, without using metal objects or liquids. Do not charge the device if the port is wet, loose, deformed, or hot.

4. There is airflow, but no vapor

This may indicate a lack of power, depleted liquid, or a problem with the heating element. A sealed device must not be disassembled, refilled, or punctured. If charging according to the instructions does not help, the product should be withdrawn from use.

5. Burnt taste appears

A burnt taste may indicate insufficient liquid flow to the heating element, too frequent draws, or depleted liquid. Stop use and let the device cool down. If the taste persists, do not continue using.

6. The taste has become very weak

This may be due to low liquid or battery level, a dirty mouthpiece, or so-called flavor fatigue. Do not try to enhance the effect by modifying the device. Check the instructions and the condition of the device.

7. Drawing is harder than before

Increased resistance often results from covered air inlets, condensate in the mouthpiece, or internal damage. The outside of the mouthpiece can be wiped with a dry, clean cloth. Do not insert tools deep into the air channel.

8. Vape is leaking

A small amount of condensate in the mouthpiece does not always mean a tank leak. A larger amount of liquid, a wet USB-C port, or a leak from a housing gap are warning signs. Wipe the external surface, wash your hands, and stop using the damaged product.

9. Device gets very hot

Slight warming may occur during operation, but the casing should not be painful to touch. Severe heating while at rest or charging requires immediate disconnection and withdrawal of the device from use.

10. Vape turns on by itself

Spontaneous activation may be related to moisture, a leak, or sensor failure. Do not put such a device in your pocket or bag. Place it in a safe place away from flammable materials and contact the seller or the appropriate collection point.

What not to do

• do not open or puncture the casing;
• do not repair or replace the battery yourself;
• do not dry the device with a hairdryer or place it on a radiator;
• do not use a damaged cable;
• do not leave a charging device unattended;
• do not dispose of the device with the battery in mixed waste.

What to do with a faulty device?

A product containing a battery and liquid residues should be handed over to an appropriate e-waste collection point or another location indicated by local regulations.
